I'm after something as a cheap hack to commute 30 miles a day in and use as a tip car.
I know it will be a pretty dull drive but will it be reliable enough?
Thanks!

Yep, the Mondeo is the car everyone knows about, yet nobody knows about. Surprisingly good to drive around the twisties, and equally capable of soaking up the miles. Ford actually engineered them rather than using focus groups and stylists, so not exactly a looker, but reliable and cheap to fix by any spanner monkey in the country. I would just say check the service history is good, with regular oil changes and there is no major rust. Make sure the engine doesn't clunk or rattle. If you aren't totally happy then walk away, there is no shortage of Mondeos around.
