I don't know if this topic has been covered before, I did a search and couldn't find anything. I recently had an elderly gent with Parkinsons drive into the offside of my Focus as I was merrily driving along minding my own business.

Details were exchanged and he eventually realised it was his fault and his insurance company (churchill) paid out for the repair of my car.

The bugbear for me came about when I renewed my policy at the beginning of this month. My insurer (Elephant) informed me that as I had been involved in an accident (albeit non fault) I would now be paying a higher premium for the next 3 years - ridiculous! Then I figured my insurance company would claim that cost back from his insurer and all would be well.

After many phone calls to my insurer and his insurer it became obvious that it is in fact not common practice to recover this extra cost. As far as I was aware his insurer is liable for any uninsured losses as a result of the accident, and they point blank refuse to pay out for this cost!

They are happy to load premiums after a non fault accident but not to recover that cost from the other side, this can't be right surely!

As you've been in an accident your risk profile has increased slightly, even altbough it's not your fault.

Not fair but some companies have been using this to increase your premium for years. Just find a different company for a better price.

Nothing new. They will screw you in to the ground at any given opportunity.

I don't have a problem with my premium increasing, I have a problem with the other insurer not paying for that increase.

It's not third parties insurers fault you've chosen to renew with an insurer that rates on non fault accidents.

This is total bullst! How can you be penalised for being in an accident which wasn't your fault.
The only way to avoid this would be to never use your car.

If I was you I would tell them to fk right off, insure your car with someone else and dont tell them anything about it.

They are all wkers, sometimes you have to do what might be deemed as wrong or they will just take the piss and walk all over you.

I think you'll find that a lot of us have suffered the same fate.

I'm currently paying increased premiums for the stupid bint that drove into my parked car a couple of years back. I didn't even use my insurance company and did all the claiming myself and her company finally paid out.

Cost my company nothing. Looks like I should have claimed whiplash, rental of equivalent car for 2 months and further compensation like every other feker.

Sorry no help but I sympathise.

I wont mention then that my wife was involved in a little altercation in June that was her fault, she reversed into a colleagues car at work, the total repair bill for both cars was just over £4000, we had the renewal through a couple of weeks ago which was, believe it or not, £10 pm cheaper than last year and after using the Meerkats I have managed to save an addition tenner so we are now £20 pm better off on car insurance than last year.

Im in exact same situation. Its making getting reasonable quotes for performance cars pretty much impossible.

Over the next 5years the old women who crashed into my parked car will cost me ~£2000.

Yes - I'm confused by the thread title "Latest...."

This has been common practice for a long time (from some insurance companies).

I used the word "latest" as it is new to me, not that that matters on iota to the topic. The insurance companies should be paying out for these extra costs as they are quite happy to charge more for renewal.

Out of curiosity are there any insurers who don't charge more for non fault accidents? I phoned 10 of them at the time and they all charged more.

Only is that it's been discussed about a million times already.

I never actually tested it, and if they did add extra on it wasn't a noticeable amount, but my wife's car was repaired through LV= when someone ran into the back of her. They specifically said the NCB and premium wouldn't be affected and they waived the excess.

There was someone on here a few mths ago who reckons his quote was less if he put a non-fault accident on the quote form. Bit like Admiral charging less if the car is on the road than on the drive, which itself is less than if in a garage.

My old broker, A-Plan, used companies that didn't load you for non-faults but their premiums were a lot higher come the last renewal time so after many years of service I had to go elsewhere.

My personal insurance quotes are much higher after a taxi driver reversed into my (correctly parked) company car in a car park a few years ago.

Bascally, if you're involved in anything, your premium will go up.

Same here.

Woman visiting neighbours drove into the snotter outside the front door. Needed a new bumper. Estimate from a local garage was £200 or so.

She insisted going through insurance.

Premium jumped £180. Should have just fixed it myself.

I bet there's very, very few people who would report an incident in a company car to their personal car insurance company.

Where do you draw the line - pool car you've borrowed comes back with a mysterious dent?

If you want a personal car after years of having the company provide insurance, you can either say "I've not had insurance for years" or you can get them to take the track record of the company car into account.

If you're in the latter camp (I am) then the fact that some muppet drove into it means you don't have a no claims bonus, even though his insurer paid.

I totally agree with you and raised such a post hypothetically a year or so ago; consequential losses via raised premiums due to non fault accidents.

Classic case of british bend over and take it attitude, if everyone complained about it then the insurance companies would have to take notice.
