Have driven two cars with frankly awful turning circles, the last gen focus St and an alfa GTV. The alfa was so bad I once had to make a seven point turn on a normal size road, combined with a heavy clutch ended up with cramp in my clutch leg!

What other "normal" cars suffer from the same problem? Rose tinted glasses make me think my old mx5 could turn round like a London taxi so maybe been spoilt but reverse parking both the St and gtv in car parks was a joke...

RWD cars will all turn in their own length if you use enough throttle. biggrin

Seriously though, turning circle is one of the compromises of transverse FWD - the engine is very wide in comparison to the width of the car, and it's in a position to impinge on the wheelarches, so you can't have much lock if you want big wheels and a reasonably narrow track.

Primera GT P11 was the worst out of the cars I've had, and that includes Clio 182s which were bad but nothing compared to that.

I would have expected the 350Z to be really bad seeing as its the size of a tank but it's actually not that bad!

Altough someone on here was complaining about the turning circle on his 5 Series.

Nothing a large bootfull of throttle, full lock and a slipped clutch can't sort out.

First generation Volvo S60's had a terrible turning circle as a result of shoehorning the five cylinder into the front.

My GTI6 is worse than my old Volvo S90 (4030x1680mm versus 4876x1981mm) especially in a RH circle. No way I can go all the way round a mini-roundabout in one go for instance...

I had a Focus ST170 which was pretty bad. Due to lowered suspension and 17" wheels, Ford restricted the amount of lock that could be applied.

Apparently the Clio V6 is supposed to be terrible, though i've never tried one.

A road registered Porsche 996 Cup Car and a Clio V6 are amongst the worst I've experienced.

Funnily enough it was a comment on Sotw that made me think of starting this thread.

Volvo C70 and Alfa 156 both had terrible turning circles.
The Alfa at least had the excuse of having really excellent handling and steering, the Volvo was just st.

I don't think it's just transverse FWD that's the problem, it's FWD of any sort because there's a limit to the angle a CV joint will manage.

Seconded... although oddly, the five cylinder S40 is fine, and in fact pretty tight for a transverse FWD of its size despite being a narrower car.

Classic steering box rear drivers are where it's at for unfeasibly tight turning circles, though. I remember making an onlooker boggle with amazement taking 5m of Vauxhall Omega round a mini-roundabout in an unbroken U-ey... the roundabout being not all that much wider across than the length of the car.

Alfa 156GTA. Normal manoeuvring (car parks, etc) was bad enough, never mind three (well, seven) pointers...
