I'm wanting to hear peoples opinions on which they would go for, and any owners experiences, things that go wrong, typical mpg when driving hard, things they like, don't like etc.

Cheers

Cooper S would be my pick of those, and a remap.

Cooper S is great.

BUT Everybody will think you're a hairdresser or Estate agent...if you are that's OK

Clio for me. I've never got the fuss about MINIs, the Renault is a vastly better car to drive.

We had a Cooper S (2004) and now a Clio 197 (2007)

Built quality is far superior in the Cooper S - never really missed a heart beat in 4 years of ownership.

Clio just looks better and is more fun if you can live with the usual French build issues.

200 wont have some of the 197 issues like worn seat bolsters and melting steering wheels.

Pop over to clio 197 dot net for some slightly biased opinions smile

I disagree. The mini is much better built and lower depreciation too. Buying a Renault is a gamble!

The car is for my girlfriend smile

We went and saw the cooper s today, going to see the clio and corsa tomorrow. Girlfriends dad is slagging off the renault saying it's french and he wouldn't touch it but I've said there's no harm in at least looking at one and test driving it.

I'm sure it is, but I buy my cars to drive.

Her dad is right. The Clio is just as feminine as the mini IMO.

If its for the gf then the Cooper S is the best all rounder and definitely the classiest. Girls driving these don't attract the same negative connotations as guys in shiny suits with big tie knots and pointy shoes!..

Notorious unreliability and piss poor build quality. I also think the mini is the better drive too!

Excellent. Facts and data at all, chap? Or just unfounded opinion?

In that case, probably the Mini.

I wouldn't bet on that. hehe

I'd still take the Clio, though.

I'm a mini fan but have had both previously and tbh the one that didn't need to go back to dealer was the 182. Yes the steering wheel melted over the yeari had it but not much else faultered on it....

People need to get a grip it's almost as bad as the MX5 pandemic of 2009 or the is your car faster than a mapped 330d
