I am thinking about selling my car but only if I can get the right price for it. If I don't get what I want for it then I will just keep it. Anyway it has a private plate on it. Should I be putting this on retention before advertising the car or can I do this if and when the car sells? The problem being of course that it is likely to take a couple of weeks for a new v5 to come through.

Yes, put the plate on retention. The buyer will not want to wait for the V5

Usually yes but I am pretty realistic but am not going to give the car away.
