OK, at risk of appearing dim, how in the name of all things holy do you open the thing and put the new tax disc in?!!!It's a BMW branded one with stickies which hold it onto the windscreen - can't seem to twist it open or pull it apart! Getting irritated - this shouldn't be a difficult job!!

You need to use a small allen key to take each bolt out all the way around the outside of the holder.

Ridiculous amount of effort, if I were you I'd ditch it and go with a lick and stick

I had this problem when I went to change the tax on my current car for the first time, mine actually just twisted open, the allen key bolts were for effect only! took me a while to realise this!

Depends on how old it is. Older ones you had to undo the screws, I guarantee you'll drop at least one! The later ones just bayonet on & off.

Yup - absolutely right about the dropping one screw - took it to my local, friendly garage whereupon the mechanic dropped two screws resulting in me, him and the office manager scrambling around on the office floor looking for the wretched things. Anyway - job done!! Thanks everyone!
