Idly browsing on Autotrader and came across a couple of minis that appear to be and are advertised as, historic vehicles.
They are taking the p!$$ though. I don't think you need to be a Mini anorak to see that they are much later shells bearing old registrations.
This example though claims to be a historic mini with a full service history! Presumably the history includes the date the chassis plates were transferred to a 20 year younger car. mad

I think 1975 was the cut-off for historic tax class.

Why do you think the car is later than that. just asking as I know nothing about minis

the lights and dash etc, all from much later mini. I can understand from the point of view of free tax but it's the "historic vehicle" "full history" that gets me - it clearly isn't so don't sell it as such.

That's at least a MK V.

Seems to be a lot of these re-shelled Mini's about.

yes

Definitely been re-shelled at some point, '63 would make it a mk1/2, a mkV shell would never pass for one of those.

12" instead of 10" wheel size
Modern alloys
Aftermarket walnut dash
Wheel arches

I'm sure a real afficionado can find more.

Cars manufactured before 1st January 1973, even if registered later, are exempt from tax, and can display a freebie "historic vehicle" tax disc.

Practically everything about this car "non 1963" and is clearly a rebranding excercise of a newer car using old ID papers. The differences are not even remotely close to even start a list.

I should know as I own a genuine 1963 mini in surf blue smile

Is '63 the seat belt cut off?

Very early cars didn't have seat belt B pillar fixing points, however my '63 does have the floor and B pillar mounting points but was certainly never fitted with seatbelts from new although easily retro fitted.

Not sure exact date they came into force though for standard fitment.

Dare I say that if that actually were a 1963 Mini with a genuine 22k miles from new, and a full service history, that it would be worth significantly more than £3900 in that condition.

That truthfully is disgraceful.

I'm fairly sure that '63 is the year.
There are a number of classes as I see it:
cars that were designed for seat belts and had them fitted from new.
Cars which were designed for seat belts or were able to have them fitted but where not fitted from new (two classes if you like)
cars that weren't designed for seat belts
I've often wondered what the law is for each case. I think that if they were fitted when the car was sold retail then they have to be fitted.

I've seen a number of vehicles that have managed to be "creatively" registered as historic vehicles. It does seem the checking process is not always rigorous.

That's like the lack of 1905 vehicles. The Govt makes more money if the cars are on the road.

It's also done 1,000 extra miles in the time it takes to read the advert.

I wonder why they put side repeaters in the wings on such an early car....
