1967 mk1 Cortina 1200cc saloon - and IT wasn't particularly old at the time. I on the other hand am slightly pre-historic.
Things did improve after the Cortina though.
The Mk II was launched in 1966 though???Things did improve after the Cortina though.
My first car was an Austin A40 Farina Mk II with a mighty 1098cc A-series engine. I had it for 2 years and it was a great car, taking all sorts of abuse and copious amounts of filler. It was certainly better than the Mk II Cortina that replaced it.
ATG 482B where are you now....er, in the scrapyard and reduced to oxide if truth be known.
Drive my parents 1989 mini for learning and test.
Then was named driver but rarely drive their other cars, a Celica GT & a Camry V6GX as I was away at university in a city so a car would only have been a burden.
After uni when I got my 1st car of my own it was an Audi 2.0E Avant, think it was £550 fully comp parked on the streets of Oxford, car cost me £3k

Wow, it's only ten years but insurance has really jumped. My first car was an original Fiat Bravo 1.8, swifty replaced with the 2.0 HGT - at 17 that only cost '£1100' a year to insure fully comp! If £3k was asked back then for me to insure a lump of tin there's no way I'd have been able to justify, or more importantly, afford it. Absolutely mental.
I loved the car though, it was underrated and no young drivers really had them at the time so they hadn't got the 'halfords special bodykit' treatment. Predictable if tail happy handling when chucking it around, and a lot of brakes too to get you out of trouble. Both of them taught me a lot about how to handle a car with a little assistance from a mate.
