Hi, another one of these threads I am afraid.

I shall give those interested the abridged version:

I advertise car
Buyer calls me, asks questions, agrees on a price and sends me a deposit
Buyer arrives on train, I collect from railway station
Buyer happy with car, pays balance due, signs V5, drives away
Next day I get an email to state that the work I have 'claimed' to have had done on the car has not been done
Included in the paperwork given to the buyer was an invoice for the work I had done on the car, including the work that the buyer has claimed has not been done (as well as a separate invoice for the parts needed to complete the work)
Buyer gets independent check done on the car which sides with the buyer
Buyer contacts me, wants me to pay for the independent check
Buyer also wants a part refund of the sale price so that they can get the work done themselves (amount not mentioned in initial emails)

Where do I stand in all of this?

Thanks!

Just out of interest, do you have a CC statement or bank statement which confirms you paid whatever company for the work done he claims was not?

what was the work you claimed had been done, how did you 'claim' it, and was it done?

The only time you are ever going to be on a sticky wicket when selling privately is if you have stated material facts in your advert that were not true. If you know that this is not the case then it's case closed. Reply once only saying something along the lines of tough s**t but a bit more politely. Ignore any future communications.

Why would you have an invoice for work that hasn't been done?
What a total cock! Tell him to bugger off.

Why do these type of threads keep popping up when the answer is well documented?

You want comeback? Buy from a dealer.

If you've seen similar threads before why do you need to ask? You already know the answer.
I'd simply state that to the best of your knowledge the work that you paid to be done was carried out, as per the invoice. Then state that you will not pay any money and will not respond to any further communication.

Do that and then forget about it and get on with the rest of your life.

It is nearly the best answer ever, I'd refer him to the response in the legal case of Arkell v Pressdram.
