There is a petrol station near to me that has always taken the highway robbery theory to their pricing. Anyway, for the last few weeks the sign that displays the prices to motorists has been turned off, so people csn't see how much of a rip off this place is.

Antone know if this is legal?

It has to be displayed on the pump, I believe.

How much is it and why are they charging so much when prices are heading back down?

Is it a Shell?

One near me has done this recently.

On a different but similar subject there's also a Tesco not far away that advertises Momentum99 on the big sign, but doesn't have it at any pumps.

I bet its a BP. They're always 2-3p more expensive anywhere I see one.

I can't believe anyone buys petrol in BP. I haven't done so for years. They are always so stupidly expensive its not funny.

As long as the price is displayed at the pump, it's perfectly legal

The Tesco shop in my vicinity (Dunfermline) does this on a regular basis. When the price drops, it's emblazoned into your eyeballs on the exact same board.
I always use the Shell or Jet garages in the area.

I do. My local two garages are BP. Also: Nectar points. Also: company car - don't care what the reciept says as long as it covers the mileage.

I haven't bought from a BP in years unless it's an emergency. As you say it's always much more expensive.

Conversely, in SW Sheffield, the Snax24 run BP station is frequently a penny per litre cheaper than the local Tesco station and on par with Morrisons and Sainsbury.

I buy petrol there unless theyre noticeably out of step with the current market price, which happens every few weeks.

The Tesco in Gainsborough has done this! Spent a weekend at Bylton Park this summer, and come Sunday there must have been about 50 of us in total most of which needed/were looking for some form of super unleaded. Quite a few of us got caught out by this, priced up and advertised as having Momentum but no pumps even installed! The only station that had it (it was the only other station in the town!) was a Murco.

Where I am Total are the most expensive, then Gulf and Esso followed by BP & Shell then the supermarkets.

Very much so, every other garage around here is texaco, in the last few years they have taken over nearly every BP & esso in the area.

I honestly think this is how they survive. Company car drivers and those company directors, powerfully built or otherwise who don't care how much it is.
