Citroen C4 VTS HDi
who has any experience of re-mapping? a few have mentioned turbos failing etc, is a remap worth it?

figures to be expected from a remap (from motortex in doncaster) would be 195bhp/380ib/ft compared to standard 140bhp/265ib/ft.

i am tempted. The remap will cost around £250. The car has covered 70,000miles.

What a remap gives with one hand it takes with another.

Hi

OK a little check list.

Firstly forget about engine power.

1. What is the transmission rated to. No point in remaping if the extra torque rips the guts out your gearbox and clutch in a couple of hundred miles. So you need to answer the question what is a safe hp/torque figure for the box to be at.

2. With a remap if taken too far an OEM fuel pump wont flow enough at the top end. So work out the parameters of that or upgrade the pump.

3. What will OEM injectors flow as well? Upgrade or not?

4. Think about breathing, induction, up pipes, downpipes ect. More air in = more fuel in = more power.

5. Turbo again what is its limit in terms of power it can produce at what bar of pressure. Does it need a better boost solenoid?

6. How old is the engine. If the internals of an engine are fairly long in the tooth you want to be conservative about how much more power you map in/what boost pressure the turbo runs.

Summary.
Look at all the compents likely to be effected.
Understand what is their mechanical limitation, what hp they max out in - in simple terms.
Work out if it is easy and cheap to upgrade a set compenent for safety (A fuel pump srings to mind for example)
Say a car has 200hp standard - weakest compent hypothetcialy say is the drivetrain/gearbox that is known to let go at 270hp ish more often or not. Build in a layer of safety map for say - 240hp.

Mapping is just as much about making the power delivery/drivabilty better - as well a chasing the hp figures.

Sounds like you need to do your homework on turbos and what they are rated to, how they fail and if there is suitable upgrade?
