Hi,

Any ideas on the best means of communicating on a road trip to France. Free of course smile Thinking a few CB's?

Pick up some personal handheld radios in argos, maplins or from Amazon. I can recommend Cobras as a brand. Range is a few miles but reduces in built up areas.

Make sure you get the ones with sub channels, NOT the 8 channel only ones.

Something like this

I thought radios were covered under the mobile phone laws, but apparently not:

"The use of 2-way radio equipment when driving is not included in the new offence but remember there is still a risk of distraction and prosecution under other powers."

My mate and I have a pair of those for karting - supposed to work up to 500m. Actually work up to about 50m (which isn't nothing but it doesn't cover a full track in our usage...)

My dad and I have some that are supposed to be 2 mile range. Leaving a safe gap on a dual carriageway/motorway is sometimes challenging enough!

I think it depends on what's around.

High powered hand helds are what's best IME.

The law that says you can use them is, I've been informed, so the bib can use theirs.

We use about a dozen of these at work, excellent and clear, reliable too.
