I have an E36 328i, that currently has some 15 inch wheels with 205 60 15 91V tyres on. They look like ballons. I have some nice bbs style E34 rims in the pipeline.

So tyre wise for my new rims can I simply go to 205 50 15 91V tyres on these? I ask because this tyre seems to be not very popular, making me think I am picking an odd size?

Also can anyone tell me if 91V is the correct load and speed rating for my car?

if you're sticking with the same size wheels then stick with the same size tyres.

I should have added, I'm lowering it 60mm so I really need low profile tyres to minimise the chance of catching the inner arch liners at the front.

If you put a lower profile tyre on the same size wheel your overall rolling radius will be smaller. This will make them look silly small in the arches and could potentially mess up your speedo/mileometer.

If you want lower profile tyres you ideally need to go up in wheel size.

This is what I want it to look like. I was at a drift day yesterday and lots of people seem to use them with no problems?

Here, use this tyre calculator:

http://www.etyres.co.uk/tyre-size-calculator.htm

Enter your current tyre size and then your proposed size and as long as the difference is less than +-2.5% you'll be OK.

205/50/15 are -6.54 difference so they are a no.

I don't think that's the point in this case and he could probably go for a 205/45/15. OK these small tyres will screw up the speedo, ride and handling but maybe that's what he wants for drifting.

No for the time being its my daily driver as well. So I better not go that small. I will just put my current balloon tyres onto the new rims frown

ETA

Even 55's are a no. I'm not sure how the daily drifter are doing it then? Unless they are having their speedos re-calibrated?

You could buy a 15 x 7.5 and fit 225/55/15s.

I'm not sure the wheels are 7.5 inches wide though?

According to the ad they're 6.5

They'll be great for 195 tyres so you could fit 195/65/15s. It doesn't sound like there what you want at all, :-(

Keep looking?

205/50 r15s will be fine. Everyone above Is picking holes in your plans for no reason really. You will not die in a ball of flames.

Yes, your speedo will read ever do slightly wrong but then you may also notice a slight increase in acceleration. Win. It will also look better. Win win.

As for limited availability at that size, try looking at other speed and load ratings. May be that 91v isn't all that common...

Look at this car:

LOOK at it....

Do you THINK the driver gives a rats ass whether his speedo is right?
