Which 4x4 for 2k?
Discussion
As per the title really, I'm looking for a cheap 4x4 to be used as an occasional car.
It will be used to tow my 3 quad bikes to various Enduro tracks - we can do up to a 150 mile round trip so needs to be comfy enough for two adults and two kids at motorway speeds - most of which tend to be either parking in a field or up some fairly rough tracks.
I also fancy doing some light greenlaning and possibly pay and play.
I'm not overly fussed whether petrol or diesel, although unsure whether manual or auto is the way forward
Current thoughts are:
Subaru Forrester
- I have an impreza WRX and a legacy powered camper van. I love the subaru engine and from what I have read these are great both on and off road
Mitsubishi Delica
- Quite funky looking and the additional space could be quite handy
Nissan Terrano
- Owned the 2.7TD auto for 3 years and it was great, until the auto box failed at least
Budget is between 1 & 2k
Thanks

If you want to tow in comfort/relative comfort then fine. But none of those are really Greenlaners or pay and play site contenders. It will be used to tow my 3 quad bikes to various Enduro tracks - we can do up to a 150 mile round trip so needs to be comfy enough for two adults and two kids at motorway speeds - most of which tend to be either parking in a field or up some fairly rough tracks.

A Land Rover or Jeep of some kind would be my recommendation. Although some of the Jap vehicles can be quite capable too.
So:
-Disco
-Classic RR
-Cherokee
-Grand Cherokee
Worth considering:
-Trooper
-TCS equipped Freelander
-Shogun
-Land Cruiser
-Hilux Surf/4Runner
Left field options:
-Explorer
-Blazer
