You what, Mr Salesman? I'm buying a car from you and you are charging me? Well, I'll be charging a £69 admin fee for you to sell me your car.

Well, that is a good question on the face of it, but I see some adverts stating that there will be a £xx admin fee which automatically induces a, "Well, if I am interested in that car, there fking well won't be an admin fee."

Besides, I thought finance would have the dealer making a little commission.

No, took the invoice and put a line through the "admin fee" (which he tried to convince me was for and HPi check and "other stuff"), the GAP insurance (which we had never discussed) and the supaguard crap (which the car already had).

It was a cash sale by the way.

The bloke was a total tit.

Fair enough, then. I wonder how many got ripped off, though.

I'd have given him an invoice for my hours spent during the acquisition process and asked if he wanted to do a contra.

I've noticed an increase in adverts in the classified with these 'admin fees', there's another one that advertises a price and then in the text mentions that there is a compulsary 36 month warranty at an additional fee.

There was an old(ish) couple at the next desk beside me and Mrs Whoami.

They were getting the full hard sell from the tosser and eventually signed on the dotted line.

Shameful.

Ah, I get you. Tis a pity. I guess it is survival of the fittest even if that means fighting dirty.

Odd.

I'd have thought they'd make more money on finance than on selling cars in cash or equivalent.

I was rather proud when I found out my sister had walked out of a certain dealership when this £99 admin fee made an appearance. Unfortunately one of her friends bought a car from the same place and paid it without question.

That's my thinking. In any case, given that I'm giving them money, not asking to sleep with his wife, you'd think a £49 fee isn't necessary.
