Replacement key for my Golf
Discussion
Just bought a golf to use for a few months until I start a new job which comes with a company car.
The car I have bought only had one key as the owner couldn't find the spare, so, does anyone have any idea how much a replacement key is likely to cost from the main stealer as I am trying to weigh up whether to bother getting one or not.
Thanks

Depends how old. Our work van needed a new radio key, which required all manner of VIN and V5 information, then the key cost something like £180 to be machined (which then makes it a non-refundable item) + the cost of getting it programmed with the car. Thats for an 05 Caddy van though.

Pop down to timpsons at tesco, they have a key reader he's done a couple for my vans, but can't do all keys. The car I have bought only had one key as the owner couldn't find the spare, so, does anyone have any idea how much a replacement key is likely to cost from the main stealer as I am trying to weigh up whether to bother getting one or not.

Just by way of an update / close out, I rang VW today and they wanted £209 for a replacement key fob etc
I then rang a different dealership and their parts man put me in touch with a local locksmith who would be "considerably cheaper"
So, I have now got a brand new key, identical to the original one, for 60% of what VW would have charged. Result!
....still cost £120 though...
