American Cousin Asking Car Questions I can't Answer.

Hi,

I have a cousin in Calfornia who isn't a car person. She's just bought a 2010 "Subaru Impreza 2.5" By the look of the photo, its the present generation hatch back model and looks none-too sporty - ie not big wheels spoilers etc.

She wants to know if it has a Turbo, and what sort of oil it uses synthetic etc. She is in the mountains of California to has extreme hot and cold temps to deal with.

Is there any way of telling me if it is a Turbo and any advice on oil I can give her?

The 2.5 comes in both turbo and non-turbo versions in the U.S. Ref' oil she should be using fully synthetic 5W/30 or 10W/30; this data will be in her manual. If she doesn't have one they can be bought new from her local Subaru Dealer or even 2nd hand from fleabay. Subaru have a huge following in the U.S. Suggest she joins the Subaru forums stateside as there are bound to be folk local to her who can help when needed. She needs to check cambelt and tensioners have been changed if at req'd mileage/age.

Thanks for that. Yes she's a very outdoors type person and lives deep in the coutnryside in some sort of national park. She wanted all wheel drive for mountain roads and going out with her skis in the winter.
