I need to buy a new set of tyres but I'll need to store them for a couple of weeks stacked one of top of the other. How long is it safe to store them like this before they start to go out of shape?

Don't chimney stack them if they are loose. This will pressure and distort the sidewalls over time.

Stand them up (as if they were fitted to the car) on thick cardboard or a piece of scrap carpet and rotate them every month or so. Providing they've been used regularly up the the point of storing and are not exposed direct sunlight, strong electromagnetic fields or chemicals/oils etc when they are stored, you'll be fine.

This, particularly if they're inflated on wheels.

A couple of years ago we had a puncture on the gun dolly of a hired irrigator. The tyres were shot to pieces (running at 25 meters an hour must hammer them rolleyes) so the fitter had a rummage in the stores and pulled out 2 brand new tyres that he bought back in the day to go on ....... a Ford Anglia. They'd been in there decades and were as good as new.

Some of my tyres have been carrying the weight of a car for 10 years now. Strangely they are still (a) round, and (b) work.

Don't fret about it.
