Best Place to sell a car privately

where would you guys recommend these days? Pistonheads or autotrader?

car is around the £22k mark.

I'd say try both.

What car is it? I sold my old Merc via cars and classic. It was on both Pistonheads and Autotrader at the time too.

Since being a member of PH I have sold every car on PH Classifieds. Buyers have always been good guys and good transactions. I wouldn't use Autotrader for anything that isn't a bland taxi type car. You don't get as many Princes calling you from West Africa wanting to 'buy' car sight unseen either!

Since I've been selling my own cars privately, around 8 years now. Everyone has sold through Pistonheads. That's with them being on ebay and the trader too.

Depends what sort of car your selling, but for me usually:

Pistonheads
Owners Club Forums (make sure you ad is correct though )
Autotrader (occasionally)
Evo classifieds? (never tried myself)

Last resort / need to sell / cheap car:
eBay
Gumtree

I always use Pistonheads.

If its a cheapish run about get ebay seems to work well

Autotrader is to bloody expensive.

This week:

Saturday I sold an RX8 through Pistonheads
Today Mondeo Estate through ebay.

Agree, a few more specialist cars I have sold through PH (vx220, smart roadster, cooper S). Mundane stuff I have sold through local rag/ shop windows - I believe you do not need national coverage for these - people aren't willing to travel 200 miles for a Mondeo or Micra...... (wightbay.com is good - but this is specialist to the Isle of Wight and not much use in Aberdeen!).

I have tried autotrader but never got a sale (even when I lived in Leeds). A bit annoying given the fees.

I have never attempted a sale through ebay, but have recently got my campervan through ebay.

TBH, I have never really had much issue selling privately with buyers messing me around (I do partex also). I think if it priced fairly with a serious view to sell, described accurately, then it should sell eventually. Keeping a close eye on the market is critical.....

I've had most success selling (and buying) on eBay & PistonHeads.

But I'd say ever so slightly...

Selling: eBay > PistonHeads
Buying: PistonHeads > eBay
