Interesting regarding local authorities permanently banned from requesting details from the DVLA database. The article mentions that details are available elsewhere. Surely not vehicle registration details?

bits I took away from this is:

1) Councils are opportunistic and dishonest
2) staggering that DVLA employ over 5000 people in Swansea just to keep a small database.

Someone's got to randomly shred unopened envelopes, miss type details etc.

"DVLA has temporarily banned 294 bodies since 2009, including local councils, Sussex Police and Transport for London.

In addition, 38 organisations have been permanently banned over the same three-year period, including some the UK's biggest local authorities such as Camden, Southwark and Brighton and Hove."

Far from all councils and far from permanent.

Insurance company's have also been stopped from license checks cor quotes also.
Did I read that the Dvla costs more to run than it makes from tax discs?
Maybe they should stop going on strike and be happy that they've got a cushy job and I dare bet decent pensions.
