Watching DVDs and don't know they should wear seat belts when they drive for a living. About time the police did a bit of monitoring of them in this manner if one force in such a small time can get such a list of offenses.

A few years ago I had to avoid a truck that was drifting from side to side . I was also in a truck . He was reading a copy of autotrader.

I thought HGV's were exempt from seatbelts? obviously advisory only or not then?

Stiffer penalty would have been more appropriate.

I think if fitted have to be worn, it's been a while since I drove a coach but IIRC the same applies.

A few forces now have unmarked HGV's so they can see directly into other cabs.

Should be an instant ban.

It was just before Christmas a few years ago when a whole family were killed by a truck driver surfing the net while driving.

It's a bugger when you spill half the sugar all over ya truck though - I went on to use sweetners to reduce the risk of 'sticky seats'.

They were optional until 2001 iirc. Since then they have been compulsory. Although airbags are still not required by law.

Doesn't surprise me, lorry drivers are terrible, they seem to do anything but pay attention to their driving. Probably why they always suddenly swing out into the middle lane without warning, never use the correct lane and often stop at junctions while they try to wrap their heads round those crazy road signs rolleyes
The other day I had one stop dead on a roundabout, a super complicated 4 exits at 90 degrees to each-other roundabout.

Watching porn whilst driving is an art, only one hand to steer and change gears with.

er.. no, but not many car drivers try to watch DVDs while they drive and it's not just cus they think they can't be seen.
Please stop trying to defend this outrageous behaviour.
Look at how blase they are about it:

Watching DVD's, eating pies, yoghurts, sandwiches, reading the paper or paperwork, making drinks, all common place while driving a HGV. Seen it many a time. Dunno why it suprises so many people.

I can remember seeing a bloke doing his shoe laces up on the dashboard while driving!

Pretty impressive, I can't get my leg up on mine!
