Swinging for a right?
Discussion
Had a minor accident today in work - at a junction on a hill, on a very wide road. There was one lane to go straight ahead, and another lane for turning right, the lights were green and I was going up in a bus at around 25mph.
A car in the right hand lane is approaching the junction just before the road will be clear of cars coming down the hill. As i'm passing her well within my lane he swings LEFT across into my lane straight into the middle of my O/S.
Result - dented lower panel on my bus (and probably about 20 whiplash claims from passengers) and the N/S corner of her car (09 nissan micra) is well damaged with the bumper hanging off on that side.
She fully accepted it was her fault and "didn't expect me to be there", and CCTV will prove this if it ever comes into question. As no one was injured I was quickly on my way once a replacement bus had come - she was waiting for a recovery truck.

My reason for posting is what on earth goes through people's minds when they think they need to swing their car to the left/right to make a turn on a wide bit of road?
I mean hell, i've made that very turn in 12m long buses/coaches and there's absolutely no need to swing it to the left, the tailswing doesn't encroach on traffic going up the hill and there's enough room to clear the traffic island in the middle. f
king morons, just glad it wasn't my car and a 14 year old bus that will cost peanuts to fix!

The worst is when people slow to take a left turn, move close to the kerb then swing back out like they're manoeuvring a 20 tonne artic. I've learnt not to attempt an overtake unless the other side is clear for this very reason.

very good point has been getting worse over the last few years its utterly stupid they have no idea how to drive.
Agreed. The junction at the bottom of my street is quite wide. Wide enough for some one to sit waiting to turn right and people still be able to filter through that are tuning left. But whilst you are sitting waiting to pull out, especially for the inconsiderate nobs who don't indicate till they're 3 foot from the junction and you could of pulled out and then they barely miss you whilst giving you a filthy look as they've had to turn the steering wheel a little bit more. What annoys me more though as these fools probably haven't even ever drove a non pas car with the turning circle of a oil tanker.

Edit - posted in wrong thread I fact I don't even know how this happened as this thread was not even open!
Yeah but it's worth reviving anyway as the situation has got even worse since then. Round my way there's a roundabout in a housing estate that people do the swing so wide, that you could get a car through the gap. Then they wonder why I hoot them from the left lane that they are intruding in!Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
