Whats the most stupid thing you have ever done car wise?
Discussion
Mine is the following
As a student (40 year olds already nodding at the back and saying "told you so") I used to drive home from poly in my beige estate "Ferrari" and on the way home park it at Hatfield Asda underground car park, do my shopping and then drive home with the potatoes, popcorn and beer for a good weekend. Of course most of the time when I went to Asda I was on foot, so normally I walked home. Talk about confusing. Especially if you has some cans of Skol or Kestrel lager for the weekend on a Friday.
So I drive to Asda and park the car. I get my shopping and completely forget I had driven the car there and walk home. So the car is there and I am at home and everyone is happy.
I start drinking my beer.
Next morning I look out the kitchen window and feck me, my car's not there where it always is and therefore adding 2 and 2 together someone must of stolen it. At this point you tell your newly found girlfriend ( who drives a red 1.0 Austin Metro) that your wheelz have been half inched. Positive side is that she is you new girly and feels your pain, so you might get a bit more towards that ultimate goal, on the bad side you can't afford a new "Ferrari" and even if the blighters didn't crash it you know damn well that they will at least piss in the fuel tank. Or leave a big Richard the Third on the bonnet.
It's about half way through the call to the police when they ask where did you last see it that you suddenly have a slight remembrance, followed by a sudden realisation, before the whole tidal wave of reality hits you. You have been both dumb and dumber but now your mind has to go from painting on cave walls with some burnt wood to the sharpest pencil ever, as you suddenly realise that losing your "Ferrari" is not the most important thing ever but actualy what is the most important it is not admitting to be a complete plonker.
The mind is an amazing thing and I got away with it; nobody ever realised what had happened. Until I underwent redemption after all these years and told you lot.
What's the dumbest thing you have done in relation to a car?
We are all friends here. Think of it as a confessional.

I was 18, it was 1991 and the Soviet Union had just collapsed and started allowing tourists to visit.
I was between A levels and university, so went to St Petersburg on holiday.
Whilst I was there, my taxi driver offered to swap his faded yellow Zil taxi for my leather jacket. I turned him down.
Shouuld have swapped, driven the huge great Rusky tank back to Blighty and turned up at Uni in it. Instead I bought a 1.1 Fiat Uno and drove that until I sunk it in the Atlantic.

Stripped a brake calliper bolt so fixed it with loctight.
Did 2000kms or so and sold it to an unsuspecting buyer.
Not sure if that was worse or spiritedly driving around with a cracked disk on some on NZ's most dangerous roads. Had the disk given way completely and jammed in the pad it would have been a long drop into a river, likelihood of survival: minimal.

As a 17 ear old, I decided that the right time to experiment for the first time ever with power over-steer was in the family Ford Sierra exiting a BP car wash.
Into first, full right-hand lock, plant the throttle and pop the clutch...
It didn't go well. I ended up with some cosmtic damage to the rear 3/4 and was encouraged at fist-point to spend the next 20mins sweeping up (and then buying...)the BBQ coal display I'd side-swiped.
But then again I did a lot of knobbish things in the early 90's

Could have been worse, you could have used Loctite :-)Did 2000kms or so and sold it to an unsuspecting buyer.

Not my fault exactly......
Many years ago, age 17, my mates and I hired a caravan in Porthcawl on a bank holiday weekend. The place was teaming with nubile young girls (to a horny 17 year old anyway). After an eventful night where we pulled, we took them home the following morning in my XR3. My mate was in the back with his conquest, mine was sat in the passenger seat. As we drove down the harbour road my mate decided to put his hands over my eyes as a laugh. When he removed his hands the traffic in front had stopped. I ploughed into the back of the peugeot in front of me at about 30mph, didn't even have time to brake - I had 3rd party insurance at the time as well. My car was uneconomical to repair as the crash revealed a load of hidden rust. Girls were not impressed either!

Setting fire to my Fiat 127 Sport GT 1071 cc 72 bhp.
The little ba5stard was always difficult to start but Easy Start used to do the trick just fine.
Until one day it really wouldnt start so I kept spraying more and more Easystart into the airbox until there was a large back fire and when I opened the bonnet to see what was going on it burst into flames!
