European Tour & Monaco GP
Discussion
Hi,
We bought a MX-5 Mk2.5 last year with the intention of getting some European sun. we did a 3 day trip to IOM and Ireland earlier this year to get a feel for mileage etc. I've roughly gone on 3 days driving of 200 miles per day, a rest day, 3 driving days, Monaco, then the last 3 driving days. I had initally thought I could do much more milage but after 50 miles of 'challenging' roads in Ireland I was exhausted!
Hopefully 2013 we'll get to Europe. I've never been to a F1 GP so if I could tie it in with Monaco that would be fantastic.
I was thinking something along these lines http://goo.gl/maps/FqEB2
We're from York so would get the Hull ferry to Bruges anjd go from there. I'm not so fussed about 'the ring' but want to see some of Germany. I think see would like Milan. We've done Barce before but really like the place so would prob stop there for a night too.
Just wondering if anyone jhas any thought on the route. Any general advice. Any advice on the GP. All tips welcome!
Thanks.

Do you really need warning triangle, spare lamps, hi vis vests etc?
No they're not legal requirements for any European countries. You can also drive as fast as you like and park where you want because our continental chums love the Brits so much they give us total freedom.
I did a similar route for the first leg of your journey to Monaco a few months ago (albeit the other way).
I didn't see much of Germany, just the Ring & a small village just outside Baden Baden. But the Black Forrest roads are amazing, best roads of the trip for me.
I see that you are planning on going through Switzerland, they have some fantastic passes through the Alps. My favorite was the Furka & Grimsel Pass.
Then you have the Italian Lakes (Garda or Como), we stayed at Garda for a couple of days which was really nice.
As mentioned earlier, Marenallo is a must, this is only a short drive away from the lakes and you can visit the Ferrari, Lambo factories etc.
Another great road just north of Monacco is the Col De Turini, which is used for the world rally championship, I would love to drive that again.
here's a link to the write up I did of my road trip

I didn't have any issues with driving for long periods, the longest stint was about 6 hours (obviously stopped in that time). Are you going to be sharing the driving with your partner?

Chris, cheers for that. Sometimes if folk don't have experience they have to ask a potentially dumb question.
Roastie, thanks for that, that is of use. Yes i'll be sharing the driving so 200 miles between us. How successful am I going to be just coming across accomodation or using Booking.com on wifi where I can find it?
I think the only thing I want to pre book is the Monaco tickets and accomodation. Bar that I'm hoping to just go with the flow.
