Cant make my mind up... HELP/suggestions needed???
Discussion
Ok im going to be brutally honest here, Cars is not my specialist subject so go easy on me here..
Right after getting an amazing 28 mpg with my KIA Rio 1.4 inherited automatic (i had to explain how i got it to save the pish taking)
I've decided to sell it.
So im going to add 5k to the fund and get me a nice fun motor.. Now im going to be asking for alot of things here, so im going to list in order of priority, so you know what is better to sacrifice if required..
1. MPG - I do lot's of short journeys (4-5 mile to work and back) not much motor way driving.
2. Reliability
3. Torque/speed - I want something that is going to blow the little bar steward who races me in his 1.4 1998 remap'ed fiesta every morning into oblivion.. Doesnt have to be crazy, Just got a nice bit of kick.. something you could scare your mom in.
4. Looks - I don't like old looking cars, so would prefer something 2006/7+
Budget is 8k max, i cant go above that, below it the better but im happy to spend all of the budget for a real nice car.
I have been looking myself, like the look of the 2008 civic type s or civic se, but they look a bit sluggish from what ive seen on youtube, i might be wrong though.. also bmw's 320d's but i dont think my short journeys would suit it and cause a few problems due to not getting the motorway use it needs..
Help please.. im open to all suggestions.

i bought my mrs a seat altea and the thing does shift when she used let me use it until last xmas i did some shopping and left a pack of fishfingers in back of car,car doesnt get used much and after about a month she had a look inside and it didnt smell to good, therefore im banned from using it
I'm torn between three cars really.
Honda Civic -vtec1.8 type S.
BMW 320d
Golf GTI
has anyone got anything to say about either of the car? how do they do in semi-urban environments/short runs..Which one has the most torque etc.
I know i know, im being lazy and can go on parkers or something, but i dont trust any website.. iit says the civic type s and the civic se both do 0-60 in 8.6 seconds (which i believe is wrong) and also that my car does 48mpg in urban environment lol

Ill put it this way, Honda Civic Type S - this car is a good car but its not quite a Type R, which is something you will regret.
BMW 320d - Again brilliant car, excellent fuel economy, very comfy, nice feel, but not sporty.
GTI - this is the one, has all of the above barring fuel economy, and its a GTI.
so in short, get the GTI.

For some reason I get quoted silly prices on BMW's, not sure if it is to do with the recent increase in thefts that was all over the news due to the key cloning or whatever it was. Run a few quotes before you jump in to a decision as you may get a shockHonda Civic -vtec1.8 type S.

Have you checked out the insurance?
If your main concern is blowing away a Fiesta then buy a Fiesta ST. 150hp will be plenty and you have an 8 second 0-60 if you need it and it shouldn't kick you too hard in the trots on insurance.
Running costs should be fairly low, being a Ford, and it is a good handler and easy to park.
An 07 will cost you less than £5k and for a tadge more you can have the all black ST500. They tend to have lower miles than many cars too and you have a larger choice of cars.
Remember you'll have to put tyres on it and so forth.
If it helps, my ST is used for commuting and returns around 32mpg but like any car if you put your welly in everywhere you go, racing mapped Fiestas, it will be a lot less.
Of your list, I would look at the Golf GTI. I had a Mk III and even that was an enjoyable car though not as reliable as you might think. For £8k you'd be looking at a Mk V but when I glanced at them, they were higher miles.
The other thing you should seriously consider is a Suzuki Swift Sport - more warm than hot but great fun - or the Twingo RS.

Thanks.
Insurance isn't really a biggy as everything is around the same price and doesn't jump too much to be concerned about if i stay sensible.
I was thinking about a fiesta st, my first car was a fiesta zetec and i loved the thing.. nippy,cheap,fun.. I know the zetec is alot diffrent to the st, but i want to experiment a little, and was thinking civic, bmw or golf would do just that..
Im going to be honest, when i drive im not someone that does 70mph in a 30mph zone or anything, but i dont hang about. On lights i like to get my foot down early and get away from traffic so my mpg is never going to be good. So im trying to limit loss with something that's not going to be crazy (for example a scubby etc)
I really do like the bmws something like this:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-320d-Saloon-M-Sport-...
But then i have no idea if its going to be stupid to run, but i really like the look,
The honda civic outside, is ok, but i really like the inside, but then when i was watching it it looked slow..
Then i have the Golf in my head, not a huge fan of the outside appearance if im honest and never drove one, ive heard there nice though.. i suppose i should go test drive some 8k is alot for me to throw at.

Kia Rio + £5k = £8k?
ergo
£8k - £5k = Kia Rio
therefore
Kia Rio = £3k
really?
Im not very car savvy i dont know if this saying my car is worth more or less, it was a quick guess that i could get about 3k maybe 3.5kergo
£8k - £5k = Kia Rio
therefore
Kia Rio = £3k
really?
i based it on this:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2008-57-KIA-RIO-1-4-Ice-...
Thats from a trader.. so i knock a bit off.
Then mines only done 18k and is a 08 1.4 Automatic Kia Rio3. but hasn't full service, and has some marks on the dash where some wood rubbed against the paint work.. (not me previous owner)
Is my estimate far off?
