Smooth steering wheel on my shed - what to do?
Discussion
My 140k mk4 shed Golf has a steering wheel which is about as smooth as the proverbial baby's arse from wear. Is there any good solution to making it grippy again without resorting to buying a new(er) unworn one? I have considered buying one of those tie on steering wheel cover thingies, but not only do they look gay but they don't look too secure either and I fear they will just slide about. I could of course just wear my work gripper gloves but then I'd look even gayer than the steering wheel cover.
Other shed owners must have suffered this problem before so what's the solution chaps?

Strip out the entire interior, replace the front seats with Recaro items and the steering wheel with a Sparco item. THEN, drop an R32 lump into it just for good measure, this should sort out your steering wheel woes!

I had an alcantara coverd steering wheel on a westfield which got worn smooth and I gave it a going over with a wire brush which brought it up a treat!
I'm not actually sure what it's meant to be made of - looks like it was some form of faux leather at one time so I don't think wire brushing it would do much. All that jazz said:

eBay a new, less-used wheel?

As with most motoring-related problems, the cure is a simple change in driving style. Hold the wheel at half-past 12 instead of quarter to 3. This has the added benefit of looking really cool.
Or by extension of this logic, take the wheel off and rotate it 1/4 of a turn.Or drill out the front and flip it.

They are perfectly secure (or were in the 80's :cough: ). They are not at all gay so long as they're pink, and you wear string-back driving gloves every time you use the car (whether or not you're driving it
).Knob?

Is litteraly hundreds of mk4 golf steering wheels on ebay....same with all other mk4 golf items
Yes but that means lots of effort f
king about changing it and expense. Plus, having once changed a steering wheel on a previous car it was an absolute b
d of a job that required He-Man type abilities to remove it from the top of the column. I'm not risking that BS again just to make mine a bit more grippy, however you're more than willing to offer to do for me in exchange for unlimited teas and coffees!
