My wife wants a new kitchen.

3 weeks ago I emailed 6 kitchen companies with measurements, a layout and photos of our current kitchen and asked them to confirm interest and give us an idea of how to proceed so they could create designs and quotes. I confirmed my budget which is £60k (including flooring, appliances etc).

4 have yet to reply.

1 replied saying they will reply properly within 2 weeks (that's 3 weeks ago), still nothing

One replied with a series of questions.

I asked my wife the questions by forwarding her the company's email. That was also 3 weeks ago. I chased her 1 week ago. Still no reply from the Mrs.

No one, including my wife, has replied. I was about to chase everyone when I realised I'm chasing people to get them the kitchen they want/give them my money and I couldn't care less about a new kitchen.

So, should I....

1. Just leave it until someone, including my wife, comes back to me.
2. Just leave it until say, April (surely a suitable amount of time?) and if no one comes back to me buy another car.
3. Sort it all out and just accept people are useless.
4. Something else

Of course I do need to bear in mind that I'm liable to wake up dead if I blow the kitchen budget on another car but if no one gives a monkeys, why should I?

Obviously this being PistonHeads I'm expecting some well thought out, sensible advice here. Under no circumstances would I expect people to start posting pics of cars they would buy with the money to try and tempt me into what any sane man can see would be marital suicide. Honest.

You will get PH brownie points for talking to your wife by e-mail.

Who in their right mind would spend all that on a kitchen yikes when there are cars out there to be bought.

Sixty thousand pounds sterling on a kitchen? Why?

I'd take option 4- Spend £10k on a perfectly good kitchen, and the remainder on a Ferrari/Aston Martin/Lamborghini. If you have no balls then you can still tell her it cost £60k, she'll have no idea.

If you're already neutered to the point of doing the donkey work on a 60 grand kitchen that you don't want, you'll never have the balls to spend 60 grand on a car instead.

Hire a PA to e-mail the wife for you and blow the 60 grand on hookers.

Maybe no-one is responding because they are all wondering why the hell you would spend £60k on a kitchen?

^This.

If your wife wants a £60k kitchen let her do the running. Better still buy a splendid car.

£60k for a kitchen holy cow that buys two houses in some parts of the country!

Probably best in the Homes section.

I have a friend that works for Schmidt, I am sure she could put you in touch with someone that will take your business seriously.

Its a fairly big kitchen.

As for no balls I have a reasonably big garage with a driving sim, gaming rig, 2 post lift and a Ford Model A Phaeton (bought this year), a new Porsche (bought this year), E92 M3 and an MK Indy R sat in it as well as umpteen other toys. Given that's 11.7 litres of fun all tucked up every night when my wife's tiguan is sat on the drive (quite funny to see her scraping her windscreen when i drive my frost free car out of the garage each morning) I dont think pistonhead balls is my problem. :-)

But lets not get off topic. It was intended as a light hearted thread about the uselessness of some people and how some businesses dont seem to want our business. Will I go and spend the kitchen budget on another car? Probably not. Will I threaten to if she doesnt get her arse in gear, yup. Will I buy another car as well anyway? Probably.

Chip shop you say? Hmm....

That made me chuckle! It's amazing that there are businesses out there, still trading, that either don't want your business or are too busy to be interested.

If it's your money, I think you should spend it on a car and sack off the new kitchen..

Seriously. How many humans do you really think spend £60k on a kitchen by email?

You need to identify some decent suppliers and go and talk to them. Or phone them up and invite them round for a preliminary discussion. I prefer the former as a first point of contact - see them on their own ground and weigh them up.

They will almost certainly want some serious cash up front from you, so choose carefully!
