2003 Civic headlamp bulb

Afternoon helpful people!
I've had a bit of bother with replacing a headlamp bulb on a 2003 Civic.
I got the old bulb out fine and the new one in but the retaining 'spring clip' is being a barsteward going back on!
Its a looped one i.e. closed all round and not the 'arm' type which is shown in the handbook and in most of the youtube online tutorials
Hopefully someone has done one recently and can give me some tips - please.
I've replaced bulbs on various cars and never had bother with the spring going back on - honest.
