Winter ragtop shedding
Discussion
Because i'm a bit odd this cold weather has made me miss the joys of roof down motoring. This got me thinking...what sort of rag top sheds are there out there which I could bag (if I can sell my Jag)
After a bit of digging i'm amazed at how many 2.8 Z3's there are for 2-2.5 bags. Now I know they aren't the last word in dynamics but they have RWD, a six pot and the roof comes off!
So what would I be letting myself in for? i've checked insurance and it's all good (getting older ain't all bad!) and am spanner handy and familiar ish with this age BMW and the six pot which it will sport.
Not fussed about hairdresser etc rubbish. Surely i'd be able to flog it on in the spring and get my money back too?

One thing to consider is the minimum temperature the roof can be lowered without tearing/damage. Perhaps a glass targa top may be better?
Good point. I'll try and garage it most of the time, will be a push though that's part of the reason the cat has to go
Ultimately if it's that cold the roof can stay up and i'll just have to do with RWD and a six pot

Forget vinyl and plastic windows in this weather it'll all just crack you need mohair and glass.
I used my old Chimaera over two winters with no issues, granted the back bit wasn't "vinyl" and was more fabric like....and it was always garaged so rarely sat in a hard frost.Just bought a Z4 for this very reason.
2003, FSH, Silver, heated leather memory seats, upgraded CD player with multichanger, 54K on the clock. Bodywork = VGC, Interior = VGC, wheels could do with a refurb but fine, needs an ARB bush, 3 months warranty, DSC, TCS, reasonable tyres.
Most importantly 3.0 litre. £6,500 from a dealer. Very very happy.
Downsides are I've only got the hood down twice on the bloody thing...

I don't think you'd really want the hood down much below that... It's a double skinned affair with a glass screen as standard I think.
I've dropped the roof in my Z4 recently at -4C
But its the metal folding roof...and I might have had the heated seats set to "Magma Kidney" setting
Something to bear in mind with roofs in minus conditions, as long as you wait for the cabin to heat up and the frost/ice to melt on the roof you should be fine, be it vinyl, cloth, metal, plastic or glass screened.

I like this one. We all know the straight six can take the miles with the best of them. I don't trust any advert that doesn't list mileage, you know it's high but you wonder what else they're not mentioning. The car was featured on shed of the week the other week so maybe you should dig up the thread? Should be invaluable.
I'd very much need to drive one personally, the archaic rear suspension set up would concern me a little.
As for selling for a profit in the summer. I'm not sure they're that well loved cars to be honest, the market may not be big enough to guarantee an easy money back scenario in the summer.

Shame i'm not in an immediate position to buy, without being naughty...
