Or at least, I don't think I did...

Last time I bought some from BP, I bought one of the pre-diluted big bottles of screenwash and poured it straight in.

I was in a rush this morning, and decided I didn't want a large bottle, just a small bottle. Grabbed it, paid and promtly emptied it into the tank.

This evening I got a horrible sinking feeling as I remembered the last time I bought the big bottle was becasue the small one wasn't diluted and I couldn't be bothered with the faff of diluting it.

So, assuming I HAVE been a twit and poured a bottle of non diluted screenwash into the tank, do I need to be worried, and if so, what should I do? (Search and the internet seem to be strangely quiet on this topic.)

Thanks in advance...

Jimbo.

Should be OK: if anything it'll be less likely to freeze smile

Its not a problem at all. Calm down smile

In very cold weather it even recommended being put in neat.

In fact i have just poured 5 liters neat(well plus whatever water was already in there) in my car because nothing pisses me off more than frozen screen washer.

Unless you have a serious coolant leak I'd have thought there'd be enough water in the system to dilute it.

Perfect, figured as much, but wasn't sure if there was anything particularly potent in there that would want diluting.

Thanks all.

Most dilute to use screenwashes have a table of dilution ratios and freezing temperatures on the back, usually including a neat option.

I've just poured a 5 litre jug of concentrated Asda screen wash un-diluted into the car. The 5 litres fills the cars tank right to the top when empty, so when the weathers like it is, I just pour it straight in. Not only do you have the benefit of your jet washers not freezing but when it's neat, it also helps to defrost the windscreen in the morning.

And it'll stink to high heaven but not dissolve your paintwork (much)

I never dilute my screen wash. I always have a couple of 2 litre bottles in the boot, just in case.

Mine froze on the windscreen on the way home, and then it froze in the nozzle. Not fun.

Whilst we're on the topic, this winter stuff from Halfords gives a similar effect to spraying goose fat over your windscreen...

Usually it's diluted to make it cheaper/last longer.. Neat is no problem.

Not sure if serious.

If concerned add water?

And as above, less dilution equals lower freezing temperature.

Don't buy a car from this chap, doesn't know the difference between coolant and screenwash

You'll be fine, OP.

UNLESS...

You've bought some of that highly concentrated stuff from a BP garage, comes in quite small bottles, AND you drive one of those new Vauxhalls.

It's been known to eat through the screenwash tank and then make its way through the engine.

But you'll probably be OK.
