Hey, being paranoid old lady here, but gong down m4/m5 to southwest tonight, do I need to worry about ice or does the continuous traffic keep out away, even just a few Lorries? Silly I know

Assuming the roads have been gritted you'll be ok down to -8 degrees (although happy to be corrected), I very much doubt it's that cold anywhere in the UK tonight so you should be fine, I'd take it steady anyway though if it were me! Especially in an E36 328 and their tail-happiness!

Nice job and car though smile

Most motorways will stay gritted throughout the cold weather, But I will tell you of 1 tale that caught me out big time, I was coming home along the M53 up north one day, There is a bend that goes from 2 lanes back into 3 before you reach the next junction, Coming back from Leeds about 3am I did hit some ice and went spinning. Luckily for me there was nothing else on road and no damage to car.

cheers it was absolutely fine. Lots of gritters out, and road didn't 'look shiny' I think it had been dry, not looking forward to when it gets wet.

Usually you will be fine

However as soon as its starts snowing even a little bit the most used lanes can get compacted & ice up quickly. Often your much safer in the lanes without the traffic.
