I take this roundabout every day, and see so many variations on how to use it that I am starting to question myself.

To explain, coming from the left, the road is a single lane. At the entry point to the roundabout the lane splits into two.

To take the second exit, onto a dual lane traffic light queue, the road isn't quite straight over - more like a one o'clock or two o'clock exit.

Now assuming you want to be in the left hand of the two lanes, from the second exit, which path do you take? Left hand lane coning on to roundabout, staying in the outside lane? Right hand lane on entry, left hand lane on exit? Or a creative variation I saw today, right hand lane on entry, left hand lane on exit, switching to the right hand lane once round rolleyes

Just wondering on everyones thoughts - I usually take the green line but always have to be on the lookout for being sideswiped by people taking the right hand lane in and left hand lane out...

I was taught that unless arrows on the road state otherwise, every exit up to 12 o clock on the roundabout layout map is taken in LH lane and anything after is RH lane

That is how I see it. Right hand lane for turning right. Left for left and straight on, unless the lanes say otherwise.

Looks like 2 lane entry, 2 lane exit, so your redline should be in the right hand lane on exit.

If that is the case, either works, in my view.

To clarify - green line is what I do - red line is what I see most other people doing when wanting to stay left on exit...

There is another option as per the blue line, which in my experience, is how a lot of people take mini round-abouts...

Whichever's quicker. Green line looks good until some dhead in a Kia decides to use that line. So red / red+green / any other combination including the verge is acceptable to get around him.

Is there two lanes going round the island? If not then obviously the left lane is for left only. Right for everything else.

I was always taught (for a 2 lane entry):
Left lane for 1st and 2nd exit.
Right lane for anything else.

Unless otherwise marked, e.g. if the left lane has a turn left arrow in it you should only be in that lane for first exit, everything else in the right lane.

Highway code is suitably vague, but the picture shows the green line as being correct ?

I'd go with this.

ThiI think whether or not the island can accomodate two cars is the main issue, because if you're in the left lane going straight and i'm in the right lane going right. Regardless of highway code one of us isn't going to make it round.
