Help selling a for a car with 210,000 on clock
Discussion
I've got a 206 non turbo diesel with 210,000 on the clock. Its had a replacement rear axle, wishbone and front struts over the time I've had it, it handles and drives with no problems. The only give away for the miles on the clock when you drive it is a slight growl from the gearbox at low revs. The interior is in very good condition except for a small area (smaller than a five p) that's worn away on the seat bolster and the steering wheel which I've put a steering wheel cover on. The car was my OH's for three years and then mine supposedly only temporary, but ended up being for two years!
I now need to sell it and I'm wondering what to do next, I've fitted Spax shocks all round after the front struts started leaking. They made a massive improvement to the handling but I'm worried it'll put new buyers off as the ride's firmer than standard. I still have the original rear shocks which are okay, would it be worth grabbing a couple of front struts from the breakers and changing it back to standard?
Next the mot expires in June, would putting a full years mot on it make that much difference given the mileage?
Finally what would be the best way to word the ad, should I mention the mileage at the start, or would this put buyers off and therefore should I mention it at the end after all the good points?

For the good of the nation I suggest selling it for scrap. I had the misfortune to drive a nearly new 206hdi and it was horrendous even then. One with 210k on the clock, modified suspension and a shagged gearbox will be worth absolutely nothing. Alternatively break it for parts yourself, though that does involve having a car skeleton lying around for ages.

Other than the "slight growl from the gearbox at low revs" there doesn't appear to be anything else wrong with it. People are short of cash at the moment and are looking for ultra cheap snotters with a decent amount of rent and ticket on them - I predict on an ebay no reserve auction it'll fetch several hundred quids.hornetrider said:
Dude. It's worth about 50 quid. eBay, 50 start, no reserve.[/
Spherical objects. It's worth over £100 for scrap.

This. Anything that runs and has MOT is going to get 2 or 300 minimum. Not sure if advertising now is a good move unless someone wants it as a Christmas present!?LaurasOtherHalf said:
Do what everyone else does & don't put the mileage in the advert, it's not like people will ask about it or assume its the millennium falcon & buy something else is it?
In fact they'll probably just turn up & buy it without even looking seeing as you didn't mention it.

That only results in 2 things :
1. Pissing people off because you've left it out.
2. Eleventy billion thousand emails and texts in your inboxes asking what the mileage is.

You'll get £400-500 for it I'd have thought, without too much of a problem.
Yep.A small diesel car with over 6 months mot will sell for £500 on gumtree in a day. 210,000 for the non turbo 1.9 XUD is really not a worry for the engine and as long as the rest of the car is keepig it together you will have plenty of interest.
Away from this site of course because many here pretend not to live in the real world.
It may even take straight Veg Oil dependent on the fuel pump, check if its a Bosch.
Small cheap diesel, will always sell, quickly, however purgatorial and knackered, I sold a really grotty non turbo golf for 750, a mk3 but a really nice petrol mk4 bora for 600, people are terrified of petrols and will put up with any old s
t if it does 45 mpg some if the time, even if it costs more in other ways and they don't do many miles.
