Did you buy the plate from a company such as National Numbers or the DVLA or some person selling it, I got my mother one for her 50th b'day, through national numbers they did all the leg work with the DVLA sent all the paperwork and new plates out to us.

But if you can't be arsed to answer any of them questions have a look at Click the number plate link Have a read of that and see if it does you any justice.

I believe the V750 it tells you exactly what you need to take to the office (there are some variables I think depending on the specifics of the car the plate is going on to).

If the certificate of entitlement says that assignment fee has already been paid then you will pay nothing (IIRC) when you go to the DVLA office to assign that plate to your car and get your new tax disc.

[Note: all from memory from assigning my plate twice]

National Numbers mate.
From what I remember, a phone call to insurance co, stock new plates on (think I also had a new tax disc sent to me)

Tax disc and number plates need to match. You obviously won't have a new tax disc until DVLA produce it. They will also update the MOT records to tie in with the new registration. And you need to inform your insurers, who may make an administration charge for issuing a new certificate.

Easiest way IMO to do the plate change is by post to your regional DVLA office. They will send you the new tax disc pretty much by return, with a form which enables you to get the new plates made. Your new V5 follows about 2 weeks later.

Hiya guys,

Am I right in thinking I take my V5, MOT Certificate and Insurance to the DVLA office? On the V570 underneath the date of agreement etc, it says "THE ASSIGNMENT FEE HAS ALREADY BEEN PAID". Will that change how much I have to pay the DVLA on the day?

Thanks folks.
There are no charges to be paid if the Assignment fee has been pre-paid. I bought and transferred a personal plate this month for her xmas, it had also been assignment fee paid. Just make sure you have your V5, MOT and old tax disc. I brought my cert of insurance just incase. If your car is not presently taxed then you won't need your old tax disc.
Over the counter its all done and dusted in about 5-10 minutes. I put my plates on in the car park smile

Insurance charged me £30 for change of reg.

Anita x Grant innit... just need a named sunstrip to finish it off.

I too had my plates ready when I went to the DVLA office - most plate makers will make a plate up with the V750 as proof.

I see what you mean - a newly bought plate direct from DVLA, as the OP indicated. smile
