owned many cars. driven more. is the r32 best kept aural secret. my dads 928 sounded mean in 1992. people now scoff if you you praise the r32. it has many flaws. but so much soul. and why do the a3 and tt sound so different. what did vw do?

I think what others are trying to say is that they disagree with your statement. Perhaps you can back it up with some vid or other means to give an example.

To me sounding good was the only thing the R32 had going for it. Like the now also deceased Impreza it was another 4x4 high carbon folly.

I love the VR6, both the idea and the character of its execution, but unfortunately in measurable terms it just wasn't a particularly good engine - inefficient, heavy, not particularly powerful,...

... the days of engines which have character at the expense of efficiency are past, I fear.

Yes indeed, I think it is your spelling and punctuation that makes you seem so "mongy".

I own one too, its superb as an everyday driver. Comfortable on long journeys, superb as a motorway cruiser and you could hardly call it slow.

It will hardly set a track alive and sure, it might not stand up against 2012 cars in many ways. It is what it is and as an owner I accept it has many flaws. The best thing about it is it being a small(ish) hatchback that sounds bonkers!

I do wish i'd saved for another 6 months and got an EVO though!

To be fair R32 golfs do sound nice, not overly quick though considering the engine.
