For a long time I've planned on creating a music room in my house, but lack of knowledge when it comes to systems has delayed me doing anything.

I want something of good quality that should last me a long time. It should be able to integrate with my iPhone, iPod, iPad etc preferably through wireless. Also, if possible the option to add small systems throughout other rooms (kitchen, office, bedroom etc).

And while I'm at it - in the middle of The Dark Knight Rises - the tv speakers aim up to much so something decent for the tv too.

Many thanks!

first things first get some sound dampers or those foam eggbox sheets and some plasterboard

if you want to sound insulate properly you have to create a room within a room

If you want music around the house, storing it digitally on a server is the way to go. If you want the ability to play the same thing in every room, iTunes on the server, plus Airplay device and Apple remote for each room is simple and reasonably priced. If you want to play different things in each room at the same time, look at Sonos kit.

For the TV, get a proper 5.1 or 7.1 AV amp and speakers. Budget is important to know - how much do you have available?

My setup is relatively modest as these things go:

HP microserver running Windows Home Server and iTunes. Wired network to various computers and Dune media player and Denon Airplay AV amp in lounge.
3x Apple Airport Express with mini hifi systems (Denon and JVC) in kitchen, spare bedroom and workshop.
Main system is Denon AV amp with Airplay, Linn & Naim power amps, Quad L-ite speakers with Quad 11L for fronts.

Music selection is done using Apple Remote app on iPod Touch or iPad.

Thanks lads.

Clockworks - I'd say the budget is fairly modest as far as these things go. Probably around £3k for music room and another £1k for rest of rooms.

The sonos system looks quite neat for the office /bedroom idea. However I am naive to all this and must insist that quality of sound is good.
