Well, not something I want to admit but there we go.

The other day I had to parallel park if I wanted to actually get out of the car. My word I am hopeless. I got in straight away but I couldn't get the car straight!! Hit the kerb twice too. Just glad I never hit either of the cars. Had to get the OH to see me back in the end.

-10 manpoints.

I will stick to reverse parking in future.

Did you drop your mirror down to see the kerb?

I am the same the other day. I am still learning, but have my test next month and quite confident in my ability (and so is my instructor).

....but this past week we did the parralel park for the first time in ages. I used to be good at it but it took three attemps. banghead

If you have a big car or the space is relatively tight, rear parking sensors are a real help!

That, plus tilting down the passenger wing mirror as mentioned above.

[PH] My Chauffeur doesn't have any problems parking though. [/PH]

A powerfully built director can always parallel park. I'm not sure if PH is the right site for you wink

You need a car with an automatic parallel parking feature. They're lots of fun, even though it's a bit of an odd sensation! hehe

My driving instructor used to say.
Wing mirrors level. Turn the wheel half a turn in then when your mirror is level with the boot/back of the car its a whole turn back out.

I never had issues parrellel parking and could get my car into tiny spaces (that I'd seen other cars fail)

I hardly ever use that technique now. Which is odd as it always worked and how I currently park is hit and miss.

Parking can be a pain in the rear, can i make a suggestion which is stick a small sticker in the middle of the rear window, when this is in line with the pavement then turn the other way to bring the front round.(I dont know if i have explained this very well, sorry).I have to park a LWB Vivaro with only side mirrors in London probably 5+ times a day, sometimes it goes straight in other times it takes a number of tries.

I was taught the same way. I didn't start using my mirrors to park until I'd been driving for about a year!

I find it much easier with mirrors though, as the formula of 'wing mirror level with rear of car, put half a turn on' doesn't work for every vehicle. And considering I drive a variety of different sized vehicles for work and pleasure, it's easier just to dip the mirror.

My Volvo S60 for instance, had such a wide turning circle for the vehicle size you had to start putting lock on as soon as you were moving backwards! And when I'm driving a van I'll just lean out of the window the look at the kerb.

Assuming the car parked behind your space is parked reasonably correctly, then just focussing on lining your car up with it as you reverse normally does the trick.....might find it easier than trying to estimate excatly where the pavement edge is.

I am very comfortable with parallel parking, as long as it is to near side.
Recently I had to park on a one way street where the spaces were on driver side and found it very confusing.
Took a couple of goes to get it right, in what was a fairly generous space.

Just something I haven't done before probably.

Having learnt to drive in a 3 tonner in the mob, without a rear mirror, we had to reverse park using side mirrors.

For the past 44 years I have been parallel reverse parking no probs, I always reverse park in car parks, and reverse parallel parking alongside a kerb is a joy to behold.

It just needs practie, but there are always some who will not master it, (like some have not mastered lane discipline on motorways), dont worry, just do you best.

Why they teach turning your head round when you reverse is beyond me, I cant do that, and as your swinging the wheel to the left, looking over your left shoulder, the front swings to the right, god elp anyone who walks out in front of you, kids for example in supermarket car parks.
