It's been often enough but so what.

I know we have a go at some shocking driving on Britain's roads, and Lord knows South African taxi drivers have to be about the worst in the world. India has roads which make a stroll at the lip of an active volcano seem safe.

However, having spent an hour or so browsing videos of car accidents on YouTube, I have to nominate the Russians for this dubious honour.

Some of the stuff on there of Russian driving is truly terrifying.

Some of the driving i have seen in India is pretty horrific.

Driving down a dual carriageway and a tractor is coming head on with no lights on. Reason, he couldn't be bothered to go on the other side of the armco.

Also seen the outcome of these with lots of people trapped within cars and bodies covered and left in the road.

Sad

The driving on these YouTube clips from Russia is truly incredible.
They seem to have no concept of 'rules of the road' other than 'might is right' but even that doesn't stop the p1ss3d Lada driver from trying a bold overtake!

I nominate the prick who reversed onto my bonnet this afternoon, creasing and scraping it as well as the bumper. Really would love to know who did it mad

BY UK standards, yes. UK 35.9 road fatalities per million people. China - 51, Russia - 185, Egypt - 420, Eritrea - 484.

Outside holiday resorts, Egyptian drivers are almost actively suicidal, they attempt to impale every obstacle in their path!

If you want horror then there are a few video sites that show it in all the gory detail. In some cultures the done thing seems to be to video the aftermath rather than try to help.

The former USSR do seem to top the charts for horrific smashes caught on camera, but I think this is perhaps because the Indian / Pakistan areas of Asia can't afford dash cams.

A good stat, but what would happen if the same percentage of people in Eritrea had access to a car as in the UK? eek

Edit: Or China!

It's probably the speeds that these crazy Russians carry through seemingly busy and built-up areas that amazes the most.

If the Egyptians are worse than this, then I don't care how incredible the pyramids are, I won't be visiting.

Any muslim state & I'm not bing racist, simply put a life to loose is not seen in the same way as we see it.

I'll nominate North to Mid Africa for atrocious driving.

Also on a diving holiday to Egypt we actually paid a local taxi double the going the rate to drive us slowly to our destination & to put his headlights on at night smile

This is interesting, shows death rate by country:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_...

I agree with the OP, South African taxis are deadly - not least because they literally have shootouts with each other over territory. I have had several close shaves with them over the years : had one pass me on its rear axle after losing a wheel at high speed that missed me and a mate cycling by about a metre; felt the air move as it whizzed by.
Seen many dangerous taxis; spanners for steering wheels, overloaded, stop without warning anywhere they want, run red lights, driven by minors etc etc

Kenya is a riot too, no apparent system there, same with Tanzania! Spend some time in Africa and you'll find a whole new driving code that is simply everyone for themselves!

Egyptian bus drivers curse. They race each other and overtake on corners etc. We were glad to get out in one piece and never did make the much longer trip to the pyramids for health reasons.
