So its a Alpina B6 2.8/2, with the interesting bit being that the owner took delivery on it at the same time the B3 3.0 was launched. Not happy with this sudden relegation to second tier, he demanded the car sent back to the factory and fitted with the newly developed 3.0 engine.

Hence its a B6 2.8 with the B3 3.0 engine.

Not quite an M3 but hopefully enough shove and perhaps even better as a daily beater during the summer months?

Im a bit anxious... scratch that...scared stless of the engine as its been to the moon and back but hopefully the old girl has a few more miles in her yet still.

No plans for mods really, just take her around europe with mates and beer...

cheers for the positive feedback!

120,000 miles is nothing for one of these many of them had done that in their first 3 years (ie 10+ years ago)

yes As long as it's been looked after should be fairly solid. Only thing that might be worth a look could be the suspension/bushes, may be a bit tired after 120k miles. Lovely bit of kit, congrats smile

Sweet, a lot of money though.

120k is nothing.

I agree, not the same engine by a long shot but I bought a 318 with the 1.9 (M42?) block on 134k, ran it 3.5 years and traded in on 175k. It was making 36 mpg (book said 35), ran velvety smooth - one bloke I considered trading it with said it ran like it was on 69k not 169k and offered around £700 more than what I reckon it was worth.

(should have bitten his arm off but the TT he had was about 2k over priced)

In the end the tired suspension was the main driver for moving on (and I felt I needed more than 139 bhp)

My TT is on 120k now and never misses a beat. Don't fear the shed!

OK it's not a shed but figuratively speaking

In Europe the alpinas go for a bit more than in the UK, 7k euros is around 5k pounds.
The E36 alpinas ( B8 aside) are the least desireable for some reason.
Im not complaining, I love that shape!

The bushings and shocks have all been changed in the last year.

The right hind wheel arch looks to have a fat rust blemish though?
Or am I seeing things..

Lovely looking thing. Dont worry about that little mileage, its nothing.
Moon and back it would have to be approx 450K miles. A friend has an Omega with this mileage with the 2.5 BMW diesel and its still running strong..

That rear arch has been painted.

I would stick my neck out and say there is a repair under the paint also.

e46 do rust - rear arches where the wing meets bumper, door latch plates, tailgate beneath the handle, bottom of door from under the seam sealer (look closely here) and from the inside of the front wings where the arch liner rubs away and encourages rust.

This might be the least of your worries, but whatever you do, make sure that you have a good, solid working key for the locking Alpina wheelnut covers and that the locks are clean and lubricated well. My Alpina key eventually snapped off in the lock many moons ago. frown

Looks very sharp in black. That wheel arch looks a bit of a dog's breakfast though, it's been badly filled and lost its shape.

what kind of performance do these produce?

Nope, not that, I'm referring to the lip of the arch.
