I just got back from probably the worst instance of this I've experienced:

I indicated right all the way round but we met where the lines cross and I had to virtually come to a stop until he reached the pavement. He didn't look once, he was on the phone and he was walking very slowly as you would a casual stroll through the park. There were other cars coming out from all junctions, in fact it was outside a hospital at 5pm so generally very busy.

It gets me so angry but at the same time it makes me think they must be psycho, so I'm too scared to even pap my horn. I assume they do it because it's a silent rebellion right? It's like they know they can get away with it, and they know it causes a disruption. I wonder what these kinds of people are like if you were to try and get to know them. Are they horrible people or are they polite but just have some personal issues? Or could it even be that he was on the phone and genuinely didn't realize? I doubt it lol...

What can we do to stop people doing this?

Sadly its illegal to just run the fkers over. But this would be the ideal solution.

Drive at them.

Seriously, the Italian style of driving of hammering on the horn whilst accelerating works *EVERY* time.

We need a law against jaywalking for a start....

It's all to easy to legally wander across the road anywhere in this country.

Next time, keep pushing the pedal on the right and do several laps of the roundabout.

They won't do it again.

this isn't a serious suggestion

I know this is a very un-PH thing to say, but how much time did it actually cost you? 10 seconds? Is it really worth getting angry about someone wasting 10 seconds of your time?

Oh, it's one thing that really get's my goat this.

If they are in the middle of crossing in a safe manner etc then fair enough, but it's when they wander out infront of me full knowing that I am approaching. They have the attitude of '..well go on then run me over if you dare' The cocky idiots

How old was he?

Where we live, groups of teens on foot with friends on bicycles have a habit of walking in the road or riding very slowly (wavering all over the place) into oncoming traffic, only stepping back onto the foot path when you've slowed to a crawl or stopped completley because of traffic coming the other way... usually swearing at you or throwing stuff/spitting at you for making them step back onto the pavement irked

Well... If you google "people who walk in the road" and see what kind of person the search returns seem to single out... that's who was crossing the road today. Coincidence? Probably.

You wouldn't actually ever run someone over, would you?

Once they're out of the way, a short beep of the horn just as you are passing often makes them jump and makes me feel better about it because then I can laugh at them.

Does it really? I did actually bury my fist into my steering wheel in an attempt to do that, only to find that my horn didn't work, much to my embarrassment. :P

This guy wouldn't have jumped. It's one thing to be crossing the road. The picture I drew does no justice at all. Imagine a roundabout near you when it's very busy. What would it take for you to just start walking to the other side of the roundabout on the tarmac? It's not so busy that cars have stopped on the roundabout (which would make it just a bit more okay), traffic was flowing quickly. I vote: mild psychosis.

As much as I would want to..No, I just let the halfwits think I've not seen them.

Was he on the roundabout before you? Is a roundabout a junction?

Highway code says...

Turning at road junctions: give way to pedestrians who are already crossing the road into which you are turning

Fair enough, but I suppose at least then you know your hooter works when the next sane person wastes your time on purpose. Worth a try either way, nothing lost that you hadn't already lost. Just make sure you wait until they've actually cleared the way for you so they can't hold you up even more.

It could be mild psychosis, I'm more inclined to think it's a sheep who saw one of The Verve's music videos once in most cases (not arguing yours, I wasn't there.)
