Before anybody pipes (heyy!) up with "go and ask an exhaust place", that is on my list for later on. I just wanted to ask here so I have a ballpark figure in mind incase the aforementioned chappy spots the shiny Jag (worth about 20p) and thinks kerrching.

Basically I want the final two boxes (one each side) replaced with 2 or 2.5" stainless pipe. I would do it myself but don't have the tools to bend pipe that big to the necessary shape. If it's going to be £££ i'll just get another set of boxes and open them up and weld straight through pipes in.

Car is a 1996 XJR. So any exhaust people on PH? there must be, every other profession is on here! smile

How long a section approximately, might be useful to add. I've had a single exhaust made up before and it didn't cost much, less than an OEM replacement exhaust would have cost with the bonus it was SS rather than plain steel.

IMO, any more than £100 is a mickey take, based on several examples with local places that have done custom stuff for me.

Good point! I guess about 3 feet (tops) each side.

I feel it is your civic duty to record the noise and post back here when it's done.

If it's the whole section from the rear boxes to the tail pipes, it looks like quite a complex shape? I'd imagine it'd be cheaper to buy some second-hand units, cut the boxes out, and weld in straight pipes.

To be honest you could do it with two bends, one to get over the driveshafts and another to get in the right place for the valance cut outs. I don't think it needs to be as complex as the current set up, which has to be to accomodate the "bulk" of the boxes.

I could stomach that. Though for what im looking at I can't see it being as complex as making backboxes, it's just pipes with a couple of bends and some labour. Just had a look on ebay and found a breaker selling a pair of used rear boxes for 20 quid if I was to go down the home made route...

Just spotted this post. I was thinking that sort of figure tbh, though realistically "expecting" up to 200. At the end of the day it's 2 bits of pipe!

Good idea! Would have to be clamped together though which would be a faff as I haven't got stainless welding gear.

I had the two rear boxes on my Cerbera replaced with stainless steel straight-through pipes. Cost was £120 inc postage.
