Hi, after using other peoples advice i felt i should repay with my problem i solved.
when "engine system service urgent" came on on my 55 plate d5 xc70 and it went into limp mode i was horrified!!! but after reading these forums i decided rather than pay a garage for diagnostics and repairs i would take on the challenge of starting with the easiest job first.
Although not simple , changing the fuel filter is very diy do able!!i have the later plastic one which as stated is a bugger to get off, i wrapped a cloth round it then carefully used a chain oil filter remover (very carefully) and it worked. Fuel loss wasnt bad at all and new filter clicked into place easily. After doing everything back up, i had to use a battery jump pack as car turned over so much to self bleed it went flat, but with persistence she fired up smile i also added a deisel version of redex to fuel whilst at it.Low and behold car has been driven for 2 weeks now, icluding a 350 mile round trip to bognor and back, and runs superb !!!! problem solved wink so i suggest trying fuel filter first, or getting someone to do it for you and save a fortune.
