I see the schools have broken for holiday.

1. You can keep an uninsured car outside as long as its not on the road.

2. You would've received a CIE letter re SORN within the past 5 months

3. An insurer has no interest in SORN or what the car has been doing prior to the inception date

4. They wouldn't lecture you about it.

Bullst thread. Unless of course you're looking for backdated cover in which case you've zero chance.

I believe it's now illegal to own a car that is uninsured but taxed, regardless of where it is kept. If a car is uninsured, it has to be declared SORN.

well, according to them they do unfortunately. They all refuse to insure me now because it wasen't declared SORN and they think I was driving it, I was naive in not knowing the law 100% but I honestly didn't think they would refuse to insure me now (im talking nearly every company)

If the car was on the road you were!! The offence isn't driving without insurance, it's using or keeping a car on the public highway without insurance.

However, as you never got caught, it's none of their business.

This threa is bullst. No insurer asks any questions about the tax status.

If its not made up then here's what's really happened.

You've stored your ininsured car on the road and been caught. Now you want backdated cover and you can't get it.

Tough.

they asked me why I havent had insurance and for 5-6 months and then asked me why I didnt have SORN, I was an idiot and didn't know I needed SORN i thought tax on it was enough. I just wanted to get insurance starting today to drive my car again, too bad for me unfortunately smile nobody to blame but myself

An insurer doesn't check your road tax status. Ever.

Hence why you're making this story up.

I've been serving for 26 years and have never been asked once.

I ran an insurance broker for a good few years and this question was never asked.

I now run the Claims Division of a very big insurer and this question is never asked.

I didnt make it up at all, i thought tax was ok without insurance to leave my car out back while i wasen't using it for 5 months, then i tried to get insured again on it to use my car again and they said I should of had SORN and now they wont quote me, it's complete idiocy on my part for not knowing, i recently found out i needed it and fully abided by the law, I'm not someone who would dare drive without insurance I just failed miserably with my knowledge of the law lol
