I've been looking for a tool chest for a while now, going to treat myself and buy one after christmas.

So far i've looked at these:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/230783346690?ssPageName=...

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/400337406794?ssPageName=...

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/200845327007?ssPageName=...

I want one of similar nature to them, that sort of size, i have a decent blue point socket set/box thingy so it will be for everything else (Screwdrivers, Multimeter etc etc), want to be able to carry it around, chuck it in the back of the car etc so it cant be too heavy/big.

Budget of around £50 i'd say.

I've heard good thingy about the Halfords ones?

The 3 links i put, they look good value for money but no idea on the brands, so they could be cheap tat?

Just looking for general input/opinions from anyone who's bought one or knows more about this than me biggrin

Cheers

TBH the 3 linked boxes do look a bit cheap and flimsy.

Maybe either a Kennedy or Draper barn box would be more suitable??

go down your local breakers yard, ours has about 5-10 old style tool boxes/chests kicking around, not the best condition in places, but they were £5, add a tin/can of hammerite, and you have a really smart piece of kit for £15, mines still going after about 4 years, looks ace!

Halfords pro stuff is generally pretty good, yeah. That does look suspiciously cheap, though.

These are very good: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Buffalo-Box-Portable-Too...

I've got one in black and used it for the past two years, it still works perfectly after heavy use where its just been chucked in the back of a van and used most weekends!

Which ever one you choose make sure its got ball bearings.

I disagree. They add significantly to the price and, unless you're going to be using it a lot, add nothing of consequence. I'd rather the money went into decent quality metalwork, personally.

Fair enough I can see where your coming from there. Its just personal preference as I normally go for the Clarke stuff and just prefere the feel of the ball bearings ones.

I've had that box with all the tools and it's been great for the last 3years,lots of use and I can't think of anything that's broken so far smile

Oh I certainly don't deny that ball bearings are better, but in terms of feel. I have a mixture and I definitely prefer the ball bearing ones. It's just that at the budget end of the market, there are more important thing. smile

I've had my nylon runner ones for nearly ten years now and they're still work fine. By the feel of the bearing ones available for the same money, they'd have disintegrated by now. smile

I also have this one, well two of them, probably got far too much weight in them but they are fine. Have used them for about 4 years they have been slung in and out my car whenever I went sprinting, they are a value chest but then I don't have very much money.
