So, pootling to work the other morning (Thursday) and as I was pulling out of Avebury (yes there are standing stones there) I came up behind a chap in his Silver Pug 407SW and swiftly overtook.

This was a perfectly legitimate overtake, no cutting in, nice straight bit of road and plenty of visibility though it was a bit wet.

Anyhow after pulling back in H16 PUP decided to thank me by putting full beam on and drastically increasing his speed to keep pace with me until we came up behind a bus. As soon as I saw the bus in front and knowing the road well I knew i'd be behind it for some time. Full beam is still on at this point.

Fellow decides to get so close as to nudge my rear bumper, yes he actually drove into me as I braked to lower my speed to that of the bus. I thought this was now getting out of hand especially as my only 'crime' was to overtake a slower moving vehicle.

After the little bump the bus pulled in and i considered stopping to have a word with the chap but thought better of it. If he is willing to drive into me then what else might he do.

So I booted it and put distance between us pulling over to check for damage a few miles later. On first glance there was no damage (car was filthy) as the bump was only light and the only visible mark was a scuff in the dirt.

I washed the car this weekend and uncovered a small scratch in the middle of my rear bumper. I'm not overly bothered, its an old MX-5 and this mark is hardly noticeable.

I am in two minds though, do i report this mentalist or do i seek out his address and send him a letter demanding an explanation for his actions? Or do i do nothing?

Also with a distinctive numberplate he should have known better, for some reason I committed it to memory as i was overtaking!

ETA - the correct Pug model.

Definitely worth devoting the rest of your life to tracking him down in some Deathwish-style revenge scheme involving arson and murder and a final stand-off with the police on a bridge or other parapet.

Somebody actually made contact with, and damaged your car? Deliberately?

I can't say it would take me too long to call the police in that situation.

Report it. Not necessarily for you, but imagine what they could be capable of doing to someone else not so fortunate as to get away.

What is wrong with some people? Presumably if he'd sent you spinning off the road Spy Hunter-style he'd have driven off happy? I think I would report but be prepared for some counter-claim of reversing into him or something...

He intentionally drove into the back of you.

There's no excuse so report him now and make his Christmas one to remember!

- and don't forget that there were four of you in the car with whiplash....... (only kidding)

Yep, a complete mentalist. I really wanted to stop in the middle of the road there and then to have it out with him especially as I did nothing wrong however he probably would have eaten me.

I am happy to report it but there is a lack of evidence (save for a small scratch on my rear bumper) and as such nothing will come of it.

There's not enough of this. Ruthlessly hunting down those who wrong you. I like the bridge finale, nice touch wink

Really??

You need to come onto an internet forum to ask if you should report this?

Don't be so stupid, of course you should!

A follow up visit from the BiB may be enough to st him up sufficiently to make him think twice next time. Got to be worth the effort.

Unless you have an independent witness / video footage I doubt the police will do anything.

A while back, I was deliberately run off the road by a road sweeper lorry who clobbered my wing mirror in the process and caused me to scrape the nearside wheels down the kerb.

Followed the lorry to the depot (local) and confronted the guy who ignored me and walked into the office.

Called the police, presented my documents, etc and apparently they "had a word" with the company but then told me without witnesses there was "nothing they could do".

Nice bill for 2 AMG alloys right there

If you do report, I'd be interested in the response you get from the police...

I agree with the other posts but, the tap may have been due to rage fuelled incompetence. He may be absolutely bricking it and wondering why he got so irate over nothing. Funny he didn't keep up or give chase afterwards. Or catch up when you stopped to check for damage.

Still, bury him anyway. He's clearly a git.

Sounds like he needs an official talking to before he escalates his behaviour into another Australia road rage incident.

I'm going to go against the grain and say don't bother. They won't do anything.

T-cut the bumper and forget about it.

What do people expect the police to do about this!? biggrin

Even if they did approach the guy, how do you see it going?

"We've had a report that you were driving dangerously".

"No I wasn't".

"Err, ok, sorry to trouble you".

Sadly correct. The police are largely worthless in my experience. That said, full reg and they do love a good road rage incident

Worthless? What do you expect them to do, teleport through time so they can witness the event?
