Hi guys,

As we have another sprog on the way I need to look at replacements for the E46, 3 car seats just won't fit in the back.

Criteria is, Petrol, £10k or there about, preferably a saloon, back seat wide enough to accept 3 car seats. 75% of the driving is done on my own so needs to also keep me entertained to a degree.

Thoughts so far are 750i, A8 4.2??? After that I'm stuck, would a 5 series be too small?

Cheers,
Bryan.

Seeing that you are considering cars with hideous running costs it would be rude not to mention an E39 M5. smile

My 2p:

How old is your oldest? Mine is only 7 and has now grown out of car seats altogether...

This widens your choice to anything with 3 belts across the back...

Depends on what car seats you're using I guess. Obviously you'll be using an infant carrier for the newborn, but if the eldest is using a booster seat/cushion then that makes things easier.
A standard booster cushion will still be too wide for most saloons, in which case you should look in to replacing the standard booster with something called a Bubblebum. It's an inflatable booster cushion which is quite narrow so fits nicely on the middle seat and allows you to put two Group 0+ and/or Group 1 either side of it. Just makes choosing a car loads simpler, if that's the situation of course.

Sorry should have been more specific, the eldest two are just getting into booster seats.

Liking the suggestion of an E39 m5, are they big enough in the back then? Only thing that would worry me is things starting to go wrong at that age of car.

As you can see I have a slight itch for a v8 at the moment, currently only doing around 200miles per week and its not likely to change for a while so its now or never.

Keep em coming chaps,
Bryan.

Would be ideal in the future, can't see a newborn fitting in them seats too well though!! Will save the link for in a couple of years time thanks.

Having an E39 M5 myself and just one child I can't imagine 3 seats (and three lots of everything else) fitting. Surely 3 is the MPV stage? Saying that a friend has 3 kids in a RRS. Two child seats in the back, one in the front and mum sat between the two in the rear.

I've been there, done that and a saloon is very very frustrating to deal getting all the kids in and out. I would look for a six or seven seater to be honest maybe like some of the e class and r class mercy. To be honest though, something like the smax would suit you really well although your budget wouldn't get you a better example as they are so popular and retain their value so well.

It could be worst you could have four and a dog! I had to buy my wife a new hyundai i800! I don't think the smax would be that bad for three and your life would be so much easier than with a saloon.

Could try a 7 seater discovery if you like a risk.

nono

Monaros only have two seats in the back. Very comfy and plenty of legroom, but only two nevertheless.

Piece of piss to fit 2 plus baby rear facing:

But if you want to use it as an excuse to change your car then who am I to argue?

To all those suggesting MPVs, to be polite, not a ******* chance. As I said 75% of the driving is done on my own, and therefore it needs to keep me entertained too.

4x4s are a last resort too, the only saving grace would be a V8 under the bonnet.

My car was always getting replaced this year no matter what, have no need for a diesel anymore. It's just the criteria for what to replace it with has somewhat changed now.

Liking the inflatable booster idea, eldest in the middle then newborn seat one side and fixed back booster on the other.

Still can't get the E39 M5 idea out of my head, perhaps an E60 550i would be a safer bet reliability wise? At a push maybe in touring form??

Many thanks for the advice so far guys,
Bryan.
