what is it with all these random creases in car bodies of late. Horrible overstyling.
This, times a million. All new cars these days seems to be a horrible mess of random curves and sharp straight creases, with fussy details added for the sake of it. BMW are terrible for this too. Look, you idiots of car designers - some of the most beautiful cars of all time were SIMPLE and featured nothing but clean, smooth curves. Got it? Good, now pick up your crayons and go back to your scribbling on sugar paper.

Might look better in the "flesh" though...I'd not grumble if it was under my Christmas tree

Their job is primarily to make cars which will sell. Beauty comes some way down the list, sadly.C

It's to hide the gigantic side slab of metal. I'd rather the crease than the horrible bloat that there seems to be without it.Lets look at how people who can actually style a car do it:

Notice how use of curves or straight lines is restricted to either one of the other, not both at once, and how they all start and end up somewhere meaningful rather than randomly appearing on part of a door. And I wouldnt call either of those beautiful cars horribly bloated!
Now, Mercedes design studio - once you have visited specsavers, please get the nurse to print you off the above 2 pictures for reference, and you can start again from scratch.

Looks alright, but what is the hierarchy here? I thought they had all bases covered - what are the equivalent BMW/Audi models?
This is a 1-series "coupe" competitor. I suppose the TT could be considered the Audi equivalent although that really is a coupe rather than a two-door saloon. mat777 said:
Really? Seriously?

Its funny because both of those cars have the "pointless creases" that you talk about.Lets look at how people who can actually style a car do it:

Im not a fan of modern car design either, but the CLA looks to be one of the better examples of it. Sure I wish we could go back to the days where BMW were making cars like the E9 but nowerdays that just isnt possible.
And most importantly, Mercedes dont make cars for over-haired students in cargo pants; the design appeals to the target market, and it sells. Mercedes are a business first and foremost; theyr aim is to profit and theyr pretty good at it.
Personally I dont care, I have no desire to purchase a car made in the past 10 years.

No, they both have a small, subtle, well-integrated swage line all the way along the side. They do not have multiple, arbitrary very deep creases down each door that makes the car look like it has been side-swiped
