Strood, 13:00 Christmas eve, the weather is terrible and I had to go to Tesco for the bits and pieces I'd forgotten. I was expecting car park carnage and masses of traffic.

But

Pedestrians were using the crossings, buses were waiting to be let out, people were letting buses out, people were merging safely and letting others in, indicating properly, leaving safe gaps... even the mini cab driver apologised for pulling out in front of me making me brake hard.

Then into Tesco's... plenty of parking spaces, pedestrians staying on the foot ways, people waiting for cars to maneuver, no stray trolleys and the only car in the disabled bays was a wheel chair adapted Berlingo with blue badge. (I didn't even have to queue for the tills)

Apart from the 4 cars driving around with no lights and that mini cab driver not looking whilst pulling out it was some of the best driving I've ever seen.

Why the sudden upshot of good driving? can't be that everyone's calm and relaxed surely?

Is all the carnage just hype or did I get lucky?

We are all on borrowed time, making the most of our short lives, since the Mayan Calendar episode, apocalypse is imminent, its just that with GMT & BST the calculations were a few days out! The 3 seconds a year over the 5200 years and I reckon it will be 21 December 11hours 11 minutes at 23.11 on the 31st.
Doom & Gloom, the Rolling Stones have it right!

On a lighter note its stopped raining here!
Happy New Year !
Whoops.

I'll blame my Google tool bar spell checker... and the three scotch and cokes I've had since I got home (I'm not driving again until the new year anyway)

It didn't get as far as Piston Heads did it.

Similar for me, just been out to a couple of supermarkets this afternoon and although busy, parking was readily available and everyone seemed quite relaxed and courteous. Even the Navara / L200 drivers were parking properly at the supermarket!

Only moment of normality seemed to be the cock in the slightly-blinged Q7 at the second supermarket who decided he deserved one of the (very few, rarely available) disabled spaces despite showing no blue badge or sign of disability, and the cock in the A4 on the dual carriageway who was driving like a suicidal bell-end. But I think there's another thread about the thing those two cocks have in common...
