What is everyones views on Ed Chine from Wheeler Dealers?
Good mechanic? bad mechanic?

Please give reasons and a bigger picture than him working on a cheap car trying to turn a profit and had to cut a corner through no fault of his own

He is very tall and needs a haircut.

Otherwise, I like him, I think he is good.

I think he's good. It's nice to see an old 'skool' mechanic at work.

Great stuff! smile

I think he's an excellent all-rounder. Clearly has access to a lot of external guidance and advice. Avoids jobs which make little sense, such as transmission rebuilds, by buying new or used replacements. Works effectively with limited resources.

I'm willing to bet a lot of people on here start with a car worth £5,000 then spend £5,000 "improving" it - and it's then worth no more than £5,750!!

OT, but Ozzie, why did you change the £5450 to £5750?

Just curious wink.

I have mixed thoughts about him and 'Harry Redknapp' Looks a little stage managed with the buying and selling part, although the spare parts prices seem to be Kosher.
The actual farming out of work has a little artistic licence.
Take the Bentley
Bought for 3250 sold for 8k
Spent 250 on refurbishing the full set of seats
I have been quoted 650 plus VAT for the front two only so theres a difference of 500ish for a start.
Then the respray only was 2k, but in real life you are looking at 6k and a bit.
I like the prog for what can be done, and what to look for, but i do feel its a bit bubblegum
Oh and might take a look at the BMW bubble one day, its only two minutes from me

£2k for a respray when he does the prep himself seems fair.

He explains things well so it's easy to follow. Compare to other program's and you'll realise what a good job they do.

Saw him at goodwood.

Edd certainly seems to know what he's doing as a mechanic. His back catalogue of crazy custom cars is second in the UK only to Andy Saunders I'd have thought.

I think he's the batman of mechanics - clearly very intelligent and skilled but also has a huge array of gadgets and tools to help him out.
It works though, I could watch him all day.

I'd be inclined to agree.

I want some of the "penetrating fluid" that he uses, the stuff that is sprayed on and two seconds later the rustiest/nastiest looking bolt undoes with minimal effort!!

I'm sure there was a thread on PH explaining Ed doesn't actually do any of the work, its the guy 'Paul' that pops in to help.

Although Wheeler Dealers is not a perfect program, watching stuff like that gave me a bit more confidence to go and work on my own car (changing brakes, working on air intake etc). May be basic jobs to many on here but seeing this kind of stuff done on TV definitely gave me more interest to do these things for myself. Whether he is good or not who knows!!

Yep, this. China works just round the corner from my office so I see him all the time, he's very tall.

Did anyone see that Morgan episode on the other day where the chassis was rusted to bits and needed swapping? That was some serious man hours!

Last night was the BMW M5 episode - god I love those cars!
