We've had a Z4 since 2009 when the first insurance cost £480. The car is registered to and used mainly by my wife. Over the following 3 years the premium has slowly dropped to what I thought was a reasonable £350 at last January's renewal. This January's renewal has just come in at a very surprising £200 which seems very odd because thanks to the E.U. womens insurance is supposed to be seeing some steep increases. Now the really strange bit - we have just bought a Yaris T spirit from a friend for a lot less than market value to allow us to put the BMW in storage until spring, we both thought it would come in at the £150 mark but the cheapest quote we can get is £210. I don't get it, the Z is a 150 mph sports car that people want to vandalise every time we leave it anywhere and the Yaris is a spazzy shopping trolley with no performance that people wouldn't even notice in a car park, so how the hell can it cost more to insure?

Statistics based on what's happened before I suppose.

More people have crashed or had their Yaris stolen than have had their Z4 stolen or crashed.

Not fair but that's how it works frown

Maybe they think you're more likely to give a st about a BMW sportscar than a stty shopping car. Are you substituting the Yaris for the BM, i.e. using its NCB?

The people who buy a Yaris are more likely to claim on their insurance? Stereotyping here but I'd imagine a fair number of young woman or old woman buy them and damage them.

The Z4 on the other hand is more specialist and driven by people who look after their car so will be more respectful of it?

Could be something in that I suppose, we go to great lengths not to leave the Z anywhere iffy and we never park anywhere near another vehicle but we are looking forward to just leaving the Yaris in all the places we would never take the Z.

Yes we will be using the BMW's NCB to cover the Yaris
